Modern selling was born one hundred and twenty seven years ago today. That was the day when John Henry Patterson took control of what was then called the National Manufacturing Company, but shortly afterwards became National Cash Register, or NCR, or just ‘The Cash’.

This blog will look at the history of contemporary sales practice from the pioneering days of NCR right up to the present day. We may occasionally look back to times before NCR – the days of hawkers and walkers, peddlers and canvassers – but for the most part, we will be tracing the history of sales ideas from way back to right now.
